DESCRIPCIÓN DEL ÁRBOL
Descripción botánica
It is a medium tree, it attains heights of 30 m, with a diameter at breast height between 60 to 80 cm. This species is reported to present steep buttresses in the first 2 m, sometimes with slightly fluted boles.
Hábitat natural
Guarea cartaguenya is found in primary forests, always under 1,300 m of altitude.
Distribución natural
It is found in Colombia and Ecuador. In Ecuador it is reported to be common in the forests of Bucay area to the north.

Occasionally vessels exclusively solitary (over 90%). Tangential diameter of vessel lumina 200 micras or more (large). Occasionally vessels with colored deposits. Vessels per mm2 less than 6 (rare). Axial parenchyma in marginal or in seemingly marginal bands. Axial parenchyma aliform. Axial parenchyma confluent. Rays more than 10 per mm (abundant).
