DESCRIPCIÓN DEL ÁRBOL
Descripción botánica
It attains heights of 30 m, with a diameter at breast height between 60 to 80 cm. The commercial length reaches 25 m.
Hábitat natural
Pseudolmedia laevigata is reported to grow in the humid tropical forests between the sea level up to 800 m of altitude.
Distribución natural
It is reported from Venezuela and Colombia, southward to Perú and Brazil.
IDENTIFICACIÓN DE LA MADERA
Descripción anatómica de la madera
Wood diffuse porous. Vessels solitary and in short radial multiples. Tangential diameter of vessel lumina 100 to 150 micras (small). White deposits in heartwood vessels. Vessels per mm2 10 to 20 (abundant). Simple perforation plates. Vessel-ray pits similar to Axial parenchyma confluent. Axial parenchyma in discontinuous tangential lines. Axial parenchyma oblique and/or sinuous. Occasionally prismatic crystals in non-chambered axial parenchyma cells. 3 to 4 cells per parenchyma strand. 4 to 10 rays per mm (medium). Larger rays more than 4 seriate. Prismatic crystals in the ray cells. Homogeneous rays and/or sub-homogeneous rays (all ray cells procumbent). Occasionally heterogeneous rays and/or multiseriate heterogeneous rays. Septate fibers present. Fibers with simple to minutely bordered pits.
