DESCRIPCIÓN DEL ÁRBOL

Descripción botánica

The tree reaches a height of up to 25 m, with diameters of 35 cm or more above the low buttresses. It has well formed boles that are often clear for about two thirds of the total height of the tree. It has abundant creamy latex.

Hábitat natural

Species in this group are reported to occur in humid, non-inundable secondary forests, from the sea level up to 1,000 m.

Distribución natural

From Colombia and Venezuela, through Perú, Brazil and in Bolivia.

Wood diffuse porous. Vessels solitary and in short radial multiples. Tangential diameter of vessel lumina 100 to 150 micras (small). Occasionally tangential diameter of vessel lumina 100 micras or less. Tyloses common. Vessels per mm2 5 to 20. Simple perforatio Axial parenchyma aliform. Axial parenchyma confluent. Axial parenchyma bands under 4 per mm. 4 to 10 rays per mm (medium). Rays 1 to 4 seriate. Prismatic crystals in the ray cells. Occasionally heterogeneous rays and/or multiseriate heterogeneous rays. Body ray cells procumbent with over 4 rows of upright and/or square marginal cells (Kribs-I). Fibers with simple to minutely bordered pits.
