DESCRIPCIÓN DEL ÁRBOL

Descripción botánica

O. porosa can attain heights from 15 to 20 m, with a diameter at breast height between 50 to 120 cm, occasionally it reaches 150 cm.

Hábitat natural

O. porosa is a dominant species in Araucaria forests, also occurring in various other habitat types. It is reported in south Parana and north Santa Catarina, where it occurs in almost pure stands. In rate of extraction, the species is second only to Paran

Distribución natural

In Brazil this species is reported to be common in the forests of Parana, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul.

Descripción anatómica de la madera

Wood diffuse porous. Vessels solitary and in short radial multiples. Tangential diameter of vessel lumina 100 micras or less (very small). Resinous deposits in heartwood vessels. Tyloses common. Vessels per mm2 10 to 20 (abundant). Simple perforation plates. Sca Axial parenchyma absent or extremely rare, non visible with magnifying glass (8x). Paratracheal axial parenchyma thin vasicentric. 5 to 8 cells per parenchyma strand. Rays less than 4 per mm (rare). Rays commonly 2 seriate. Oil and/or mucilage cells associated with the axial and/or ray parenchyma (idioblasts). Body ray cells procumbent with one row of upright and/or square marginal cells (Kribs-III). Septate fibers present. Fibers with simple to minutely bordered pits.
