DESCRIPCIÓN DEL ÁRBOL

Descripción botánica

The tree attains a height of about 30 to 35 m, with diameters of 90 cm. The boles are straight, with commercial lengths of 10 to 20 m. It presents small or no buttresses.

Hábitat natural

Pterocarpus vernalis grows in a wide variety of habitats in the tropical American forests. It is found in primary and secondary forests.

Distribución natural

P. vernalis is reported from Southern Mexico to northern Argentina.

Wood diffuse porous. Vessels solitary and in short radial multiples. Tangential diameter of vessel lumina 200 micras or more (large). Vessels per mm2 less than 6 (rare). Simple perforation plates. Vessel-ray pits similar to intervessel pits in size and shape. I Axial parenchyma in marginal or in seemingly marginal bands. Axial parenchyma aliform. Axial parenchyma confluent. Axial parenchyma in discontinuous tangential lines. Axial parenchyma storied. Prismatic crystals in chambered axial parenchyma cells and/or in fi Rays more than 10 per mm (abundant). Rays storied. Rays exclusively uniseriate. Homogeneous rays and/or sub-homogeneous rays (all ray cells procumbent). Fibers with simple to minutely bordered pits.
