DESCRIPTION DE L'ARBRE
Description botanique
The tree reaches a height of 30 to 35 m. The bole is slim, straight and cylindrical. The trunk diameter attains 100 cm.
Habitat naturel
Calpocalyx heitzii is a coastal forest species, it prefers high rainfall areas.
Répartition naturelle
South of Cameroon on the border with Equatorial Guinea and north of the Ogooué River in Gabon.

Description anatomique du bois
Wood diffuse porous. Occasionally vessels exclusively solitary (over 90%). Tangential diameter of vessel lumina 150 to 200 micras (medium). Vestured pits. Vessels per mm2 less than 6 (rare). Simple perforation plates. Vessel-ray pits similar to intervessel pits Axial parenchyma in marginal or in seemingly marginal bands. Paratracheal axial parenchyma scanty and/or vasicentric. Axial parenchyma lozenge-aliform. Occasionally axial parenchyma confluent. Prismatic crystals in chambered axial parenchyma cells and/or in f Rays more than 10 per mm (abundant). Rays non-storied. Rays 1 to 2 seriate. Homogeneous rays and/or sub-homogeneous rays (all ray cells procumbent). Septate fibers present. Fibers with simple to minutely bordered pits.

The sapwood is light pinkish grey. The heartwood is reddish brown, sometimes with irregular brown streaks, it is not clearly demarcated.
