Description botanique

It can reach a height of 45 m with a diameter of 90 cm.

It can be found mainly in Tasmania (Australia) but extensively cultivated in plantations in subtropical regions.

Wood diffuse porous. Vessels in diagonal and/or radial pattern. Vessels exclusively solitary (over 90%). Vestured pits. Vessel-ray pits reticulate and/or foraminate. Paratracheal axial parenchyma scanty and/or vasicentric. Rays more than 10 per mm (abundant). Rays exclusively uniseriate. Fibers with distinctly bordered pits.

Défauts dus au séchage

Ease of Drying: The wood dries fairly slowly, with only slight seasoning defects. In Malaysia it takes 2.5 to 3 months to air dry 15 mm thick boards. Drying Defects: Cupping, bowing, end checking, splitting and staining are reported. Kiln Schedules: In Papua New Guinea a kiln schedule with a dry-bulb temperature of 55 to 71 degrees gave acceptable results for the wood of this species. Using this schedule the wood can be dried from 65% to 15% moisture to 15% moisture content in 6 days.
