DESCRIPTION DE L'ARBRE

Description botanique

It is a dominant tree, it attains heights of 40 m, with a diameter at breast height of 70 cm in the average, occasionally up to 100 cm. The bole is cylindrical, with low buttresses.

Habitat naturel

Chrysophyllum cainito natural growth range is tropical America, found in primary forests in a wide range of habitats.

Répartition naturelle

It is reported from Mexico to Bolivia.

Description anatomique du bois

Wood diffuse porous. Vessels solitary and in short radial multiples. Tangential diameter of vessel lumina 100 micras or less (very small). Tyloses sclerotic. Vessels per mm2 6 to 10 (medium). Simple perforation plates. Vessel-ray pits coarse throughout the ray Axial parenchyma in continuous tangential lines or fine bands. Siliceous bodies in the axial parenchyma cells. Axial parenchyma in narrow bands on lines up to 3 cells wide. 4 to 10 rays per mm (medium). Rays 1 to 4 seriate. Silica bodies in the ray cells. Body ray cells procumbent with mostly 2 to 4 rows of upright and/or square marginal cells (Kribs-II). Non-septate fibers. Fibers very thick walled. Fibers with simple to minutely bordered pits.
