IDENTIFICATION DU BOIS

Description anatomique du bois

Wood diffuse porous. Occasionally vessels exclusively solitary (over 90%). Tangential diameter of vessel lumina 200 micras or more (large). Vestured pits. Vessels per mm2 less than 6 (rare). Simple perforation plates. Vessel-ray pits similar to intervessel pits Occasionally axial parenchyma in marginal or in seemingly marginal bands. Axial parenchyma lozenge-aliform. Axial parenchyma aliform. Prismatic crystals in chambered axial parenchyma cells and/or in fibers. 3 to 4 cells per parenchyma strand. Rays more than 10 per mm (abundant). Occasionally rays and/or axial elements irregularly storied. Rays exclusively uniseriate. Body ray cells procumbent with mostly 2 to 4 rows of upright and/or square marginal cells (Kribs-II). Non-septate fibers. Fibers with simple to minutely bordered pits.

DESCRIPTION GÉNÉRALE DU BOIS

Teinte

The sapwood is greyish or yellowish, it has a thickness of 5 to 10 cm. The heartwood is copper brown, sometimes with dark veining, it is clearly demarcated.

Index de Teinte (1 = Noir, 7 = Jaune clair)

4

Grain

Straight or slightly interlocked, sometimes with an influence on further processing operations.

Texture

Texture is usually medium to coarse.

Durabilité naturelle

Moderately durable to decay. Without preservative treatment, this species can be used only under risk of occasional re-humidification. It is not suited for uses with risks of permanent or long-lasting humidification. Moderately resistant to termites attack

Index de durabilité naturelle (1 = Très élevée, 7 = Très faible)

3

Tensions internes de croissance

Residual growth stresses are absent.

Teneur en silice

Silica Content: Silica is present. Amounts over 0.05% may affect wood processing. Silica Value: 0.06

Résistance à l'imprégnation

Difficult to treat with only a low penetration of the preservative products.
