DESCRIÇÃO DA ÁRVORE
Descrição botânica
The tree is reported to develop a somewhat fluted bole. It attains a height of about 20 to 30 m, commonly 80 in diameter. It presents well developed flat buttresses up to 4 to 8 m tall.
Distribuição natural
It is reported northern South America, from the Guyanas down to Peru and Bolivia.

Wood diffuse porous. Vessels solitary and in short radial multiples. Occasionally tangential diameter of vessel lumina 200 micras or more. Tyloses common. Vessels per mm2 less than 6 (rare). Simple perforation plates. Vessel-ray pits similar to intervessel pits Axial parenchyma in continuous tangential lines (included in reticulate and scalariform). Prismatic crystals in chambered axial parenchyma cells and/or in fibers. 5 to 8 cells per parenchyma strand. Axial parenchyma in narrow bands on lines up to 3 cells wid 4 to 10 rays per mm (medium). Rays 1 to 4 seriate. Silica bodies in the ray cells. Homogeneous rays and/or sub-homogeneous rays (all ray cells procumbent). Fibers with simple to minutely bordered pits.
