Description Of The Tree

Botanical Description

It is an unarmed, medium-sized to large tree up to 45 m tall. The bole is straight, branchless for up to 31 m, up to 160 cm in diameter, sometimes with buttresses.

Natural Habitat

This species is found in lowland rain forests, both inland and near the seashore, up to 850 m of altitude. Not enough information available to apply the criterrion.(CITES,?,1997)

Wood diffuse porous. Occasionally vessels in diagonal and/or radial pattern. Occasionally tangential diameter of vessel lumina 200 micras or more. Vestured pits. Vessels per mm2 less than 6 (rare). Simple perforation plates. Vessel-ray pits similar to intervess Occasionally paratracheal axial parenchyma scanty and/or vasicentric. Axial parenchyma aliform. Axial parenchyma confluent. Occasionally prismatic crystals in chambered axial parenchyma cells and/or in fibers. Two cells per parenchyma strand. 3 to 4 cells per 4 to 10 rays per mm (medium). Homogeneous rays and/or sub-homogeneous rays (all ray cells procumbent). Fibers very thin walled. Crystals in fibers. Fibers with simple to minutely bordered pits.
