Botanical Description

The trees are reported to reach heights of 28 to 40 m, with well developed buttresses.

Natural Habitat

Enterolobium schomburgkii is reported from the sea level up to 1,100 m of altitude. It prefers non-inundable sandy soils.

Natural Distribution

Species in this group are reported to occur from Mexico and Guatemala, through Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia and Paraguay.

Wood Identification

Anatomic Description Of Wood

Wood diffuse porous. Vessels solitary and in short radial multiples. Occasionally tangential diameter of vessel lumina 200 micras or more. White deposits in heartwood vessels. Vessels per mm2 less than 6 (rare). Simple perforation plates. Vessel-ray pits simila Occasionally axial parenchyma in marginal or in seemingly marginal bands. Apotracheal axial parenchyma diffuse and/or diffuse in aggregates. Paratracheal axial parenchyma scanty and/or vasicentric. Axial parenchyma lozenge-aliform. Axial parenchyma confluent. 4 to 10 rays per mm (medium). Rays 1 to 4 seriate. Occasionally septate fibers present. Fibers with simple to minutely bordered pits.
