Description Of The Tree

Botanical Description

A meddium sized tree up to 25m tall, but sometimes as large as 35m, usually with twisted or leaning bole up to 150cm in diameter, with out buttresses.

Natural Habitat

In several areas ( Peninsular Malaysia, Borneo, New Guinea) bintangor may be very aboundant and of considerable importnce for its timber. Besides traded locally. The timber and round logs are also exported to Japan. It is often common on the seashore(Sand

Natural Distribution

Eastern Africa, Madagasear, inlands of the Indian ocean, India, Sri Lanca, Myanmer,Indo-China, Thailand,Tiwan and the Ryulyu islands, thoughout Malesia,Northern Australia and the islands of the Pacific oecan.

Moderate scale plantations have been established in its range, as well as in wentern Africa and in the tropics of America.

Vessels per mm2 6 to 10 (medium). Occasionally vessels in diagonal and/or radial pattern. Vessels exclusively solitary (over 90%). Occasionally tyloses common. Tangential diameter of vessel lumina 200 micras or more (large). Vessel-ray pits larger than the int Axial parenchyma in thick bands. Axial parenchyma bands more than 3 cells wide. Rays more than 10 per mm (abundant). Rays exclusively uniseriate. Prismatic crystals in the ray cells. Body ray cells procumbent with mostly 2 to 4 rows of upright and/or square marginal cells (Kribs-II). Septate fibers present. Fibers with simple to minutely bordered pits.
