Botanical Description

The tree reaches a height of 30 m, with trunk diameters of 60 cm. The bole is up to 15 m in length.

Natural Habitat

Gambeya beguei is found scattered in semi-deciduous forests.

Natural Distribution

In Cote d`Ivoire, Ghana, Cameroon, and Central Africa.

Tangential diameter of vessel lumina 100 to 150 micras (small). Non-vestured pits. Vessels pe Apotracheal axial parenchyma diffuse and/or diffuse in aggregates. Prismatic crystals in short chains in chambered axial parenchyma cells. 5 to 8 cells per parenchyma strand. 4 to 10 rays per mm (medium). Rays non-storied. Rays 1 to 4 seriate. Occasionally crystal sand in ray cells. Silica bodies in the ray cells. Heterogeneous rays and/or multiseriate heterogeneous rays. Non-septate fibers. Fibers with simple to minutely bordered pits.
