It is a small to medium sized evergreen tree, eventually up to 40 m in height and up to 150 cm in diameter. The trunk is straight, cylindrical, branchless for 25 m. Sometimes presenting small buttresses.
Manglietia is found scattered in primary evergreen lowland to montane rain forests, from 450 to 2,000 m of altitude.
A plantation of Manglietia is reported in Bali, presumably for local consumption.
Vessels in radial multiples of 4 or more common. Tangential diameter of vessel lumina 100 micras or less (very small). Tyloses common. Vessels per mm2 5 to 20. Vessel-ray pits reticulate and/or foraminate. Simple perforation plates. Intervessel pits small, 7 mi Apotracheal axial parenchyma diffuse and/or diffuse in aggregates. Axial parenchyma reticulate. Axial parenchyma scalariform. Prismatic crystals in chambered axial parenchyma cells and/or in fibers. Body ray cells procumbent with over 4 rows of upright and/or square marginal cells (Kribs-I). Fibers very thick walled.

The heartwood varies from yellow-brown to pale green-brown or pale brown, clearly differentiated from the sapwood.
