Description Of The Tree

Botanical Description

It can reach a height of 25 m. with girths of over 60 cm above the buttresses. The bole is straight and cylindrical.

Natural Habitat

Schizomeria species are reported in primary evergreen or deciduous forests up to 1,300 m of altitude.

Wood diffuse porous. Tangential diameter of vessel lumina 100 micras or less (very small). Occasionally tyloses common. Occasionally vessels per mm2 more than 20. Vessels per mm2 more than 20 (very abundant). Vessel-ray pits reticulate and/or foraminate. Simple Occasionally apotracheal axial parenchyma diffuse and/or diffuse in aggregates. Paratracheal axial parenchyma scanty and/or vasicentric. Prismatic crystals in chambered axial parenchyma cells and/or in fibers. 5 to 8 cells per parenchyma strand. Axial parench 4 to 10 rays per mm (medium). Body ray cells procumbent with over 4 rows of upright and/or square marginal cells (Kribs-I). Body ray cells procumbent with mostly 2 to 4 rows of upright and/or square marginal cells (Kribs-II). Body ray cells procumbent with o Fibers with distinctly bordered pits.
