It is a tree to 40 m tall, 100 cm diameter. The bole is straight, often with knobs.
Strombosia is found scattered in primary evergreen lowland rain forests, from the sea level up to 800 m of altitude. Not enough information available to apply the criterrion.(CITES,?,1997)
Wood diffuse porous. Occasionally vessels in radial multiples of 4 or more common. Tangential diameter of vessel lumina 100 micras or less (very small). Occasionally tyloses common. Vessels per mm2 more than 20 (very abundant). Vessel-ray pits reticulate and/o Apotracheal axial parenchyma diffuse and/or diffuse in aggregates. Occasionally apotracheal axial parenchyma diffuse and/or diffuse in aggregates. Occasionally prismatic crystals in chambered axial parenchyma cells and/or in fibers. 5 to 8 cells per parenchy Rays more than 10 per mm (abundant). Ray height more than 1 mm. Occasionally rays exclusively uniseriate. Prismatic crystals in the ray cells. Body ray cells procumbent with over 4 rows of upright and/or square marginal cells (Kribs-I). Body ray cells procumbe Fibers very thick walled. Fibers with simple to minutely bordered pits.
The heartwood is pale yellow with an olive-brown tinge, darkening to pale orange-brown, moderately sharply differentiated from the paler sapwood.
The grain is usually straight or interlocked.
Texture is usually fine to moderately fine.
The wood is moderately durable when exposed to the weather or in contact with the ground.
It is difficult to impregnate.
Ease of Drying: Drying is very slow and difficult to perform; defects are frequent. Drying Defects: Risks of checks. Kiln Schedules: Schedule proposed as a reference by comparison with well known species taking into account to the general technological behavior of this species.
Sawing of this species is easy.
It is easy to plane although the radial surface is slightly rough due to picking up of the grain.
