It is an evergreen, medium-sized to fairly large tree up to 40 m tall. The bole is slender, cylindrical, branchless for up to 20 m, up to 60 cm in diameter, usually expanded at base or rarely with buttresses up to 1.5 m high.

Vessels per mm2 less than 6 (rare). Intervessel pits scalariform. Simpl Apotracheal axial parenchyma diffuse and/or diffuse in aggregates. Occasionally paratracheal axial parenchyma scanty and/or vasicentric. 3 to 4 cells per parenchyma strand. 5 to 8 cells per parenchyma strand. 4 to 10 rays per mm (medium). Ray height more than 1 mm.
