Small to medium sized tree, rarely large, up to 30 m tall. The bole is straight or slightly twisted, cylindrical to slightly angular, branchless for up to 15 m and 60 cm of diameter.
Melicope trees are found scattered in primary or secondary rain forests, from the lowlands up to 1,600 m of altitude.
Several species of Euodia contain alkaloids, coumarins and essential oils.
Wood diffuse porous. Tangential diameter of vessel lumina 100 micras or less (very small). Vessels per mm2 5 to 20. Vessels per mm2 less than 6 (rare). Simple perforation plates. Vessel-ray pits similar to intervessel pits in size and shape. Intervessel pits sm Paratracheal axial parenchyma scanty and/or vasicentric. Axial parenchyma aliform. Axial parenchyma confluent. Occasionally 5 to 8 cells per parenchyma strand. Occasionally axial parenchyma in narrow bands on lines up to 3 cells wide. Occasionally axial parenc 4 to 10 rays per mm (medium). Occasionally larger rays more than 4 seriate. Occasionally silica bodies in the ray cells. Homogeneous rays and/or sub-homogeneous rays (all ray cells procumbent). Fibers very thin walled. Fibers with simple to minutely bordered pits.

It has unpleasant or aromatic odor when fresh.
The heartwood is almost white or pale yellow-white to pale yellow-brown, occasionally with an orange tinge, not clearly differentiated from the sapwood.
The grain is straight or slightly interlocked.
The texture is moderately fine and even.
This wood is frequently moderate in luster.
It has a low natural durability, quickly processing is recommended.

Ease of Drying: Air seasoning is quite rapid. Boards 25 mm thick can be air dried in 2 to 2.5 months. Drying Defects: Slight bowing, twisting and some end checking are reported. Staining may also occur. In Myanmar, the wood of this species reportedly does not split during seasoning, but it is very liable to staining. Kiln Schedules: The wood can be kiln dried rapidly, but a mild kiln schedule is recommended.
