Wood Identification

Anatomic Description Of Wood

Wood diffuse porous. Vessels solitary and in short radial multiples. Tangential diameter of vessel lumina 150 to 200 micras (medium). Resinous deposits in heartwood vessels. Vestured pits. Vessels per mm2 less than 6 (rare). Simple perforation plates. Vessel-ray Axial parenchyma lozenge-aliform. Occasionally axial parenchyma confluent. Prismatic crystals in non-chambered axial parenchyma cells. Prismatic crystals in chambered axial parenchyma cells and/or in fibers. 5 to 8 cells per parenchyma strand. Rays and/or axial elements irregularly storied. Rays 1 to 4 seriate. Homogeneous rays and/or sub-homogeneous rays (all ray cells procumbent). Occasionally body ray cells procumbent with one row of upright and/or square marginal cells (Kribs-III). Fibers with simple to minutely bordered pits.

Workability

Planing

It is moderately good in planing, but raised grain and fuzzy surfaces are common.

Boring

Boring is fair, but it has good finishing.

Sanding

Sanding is considered easy, but the finishing is fair because of fuzzy surfaces.

Response To Hand Tools

It is difficult to cut with hand tools.
