Description Of The Tree

Botanical Description

The tree reaches a height of up to 30, with diameters of 100 cm or more above the small buttresses that are about 50 cm high. It has straight and cylindrical boles, often clear for about two thirds of the total height of the tree.

Natural Habitat

Dacryodes olivifera grows in the eastern flank of the Andes mountains, between 900 and 1,300 m of altitude.

Natural Distribution

This species is reported to be common in the forests of Ecuador.

Non Timber Uses

The resin of this species is used as fuel and also as medicine, the fruits are edible.
