The tree reaches a height of 40 to 46 m, with diameters of 100 cm. The bole is cylindrical, clear and straight with no buttresses.
Dacryodes igaganga is a timber species found in the lowland rain forests, generally in small groups.
West Africa.
Wood diffuse porous. Occasionally vessels exclusively solitary (over 90%). Tangential diameter of vessel lumina 150 to 200 micras (medium). Tyloses thin walled. Non-vestured pits. Vessels per mm2 6 to 10 (medium). Simple perforation plates. Vessel-ray pits coars Paratracheal axial parenchyma scanty and/or vasicentric. 4 to 10 rays per mm (medium). Rays non-storied. Rays commonly 2 seriate. Silica bodies in the ray cells. Occasionally prismatic crystals in the ray cells. Body ray cells procumbent with one row of upright and/or square marginal cells (Kribs-III). Septate fibers present. Silica bodies in fibers. Fibers with simple to minutely bordered pits.

The sapwood is lighter in shade than the heartwood, it has a thickness of 2.5 to 4 cm. The heartwood is pink-buff, it is clearly demarcated.

It has highly interlocked grain; special care is needed when drying because of frequent risks of distortion.
Texture is reported to be fine to medium.
This wood is commonly of low luster.
Not durable; important risks of decay attacks at any processing step, from logs up to final products. It must receive preservative treatment. Sensible to termites attack. Heartwood is sensible to Lyctus attacks.
