Description Of The Tree

Botanical Description

It is a small to fairly large tree, up to 35 m tall. The bole is crooked or straight and cylindrical, branchless for up to 15 m, with diameters of 100 cm. Occasionally, small buttresses are reported.

Natural Habitat

Prunus species are found in primary and secondary lowland to montane forests, up to 3,700 m of altitude.

Natural Distribution

It is present in Southern Myanmar, Vietnam, Thailand, and throughout the Malaysian region; possibly also in Taiwan.

Vessels per mm2 5 to 20. Wood diffuse porous. Tangential diameter of vessel lumina 100 to 200 micras. Vessel-ray pits coarse throughout the ray cell. Simple perforation plates. Intervessel pits small, 7 micras or less. Occasionally helical thickenings in vessel Occasionally apotracheal axial parenchyma diffuse and/or diffuse in aggregates. Paratracheal axial parenchyma scanty and/or vasicentric. Occasionally axial parenchyma aliform. 5 to 8 cells per parenchyma strand. Ray height more than 1 mm. Ray width 1 to 3 cells. Body ray cells procumbent with mostly 2 to 4 rows of upright and/or square marginal cells (Kribs-II).
