Piptadenia glandulifera Pellegr.
The tree reaches a height of 43 m. The bole is cylindrical, straight and up to 26 m in length. The trunk diameter attains 170 up to 200 cm over the short buttresses.
Newtonia glandulifera occurs in areas of medium to high rainfall, often on sandy soil.
Wood diffuse porous. Occasionally vessels exclusively solitary (over 90%). Tangential diameter of vessel lumina 150 to 200 micras (medium). Vestured pits. Simple perforation plates. Vessel-ray pits similar to intervessel pits in size and shape. Intervessel pits Axial parenchyma in marginal or in seemingly marginal bands. Paratracheal axial parenchyma scanty and/or vasicentric. Prismatic crystals in chambered axial parenchyma cells and/or in fibers. 5 to 8 cells per parenchyma strand. 4 to 10 rays per mm (medium). Rays non-storied. Rays 1 to 4 seriate. Homogeneous rays and/or sub-homogeneous rays (all ray cells procumbent). Occasionally septate fibers present. Fibers with simple to minutely bordered pits.

The sapwood is paler than the heartwood, it has a thickness of 5 to 7.5 cm. The heartwood is red-brown, it is clearly demarcated.
Straight or slightly interlocked, sometimes with an influence on further processing operations.
This species is usually reported to have a fine texture.
Luster is usually low.
Not durable; important risks of decay attacks at any processing step, from logs up to final products. It must receive preservative treatment. Sensible to termites attack. The heartwood is sensible to Lyctus attacks.
