Description Of The Tree

Botanical Description

It is a small or rarely medium-sized trees up to 25 m tall. The bole is branchless for up to 18 m, up to 50 cm in diameter.

Natural Habitat

Trichospermum richii is a pioneer species found scattered in primary and secondary forests, up to 700 m of altitude.

Wood Identification

Anatomic Description Of Wood

Wood diffuse porous. Vessels exclusively solitary (over 90%). Vessels per mm2 5 to 20. Vessels per mm2 less than 6 (rare). Simple perforation plates. Vessel-ray pits similar to intervessel pits in size and shape. Intervessel pits small, 7 micras or less. Apotracheal axial parenchyma diffuse and/or diffuse in aggregates. Paratracheal axial parenchyma scanty and/or vasicentric. Occasionally paratracheal axial parenchyma scanty and/or vasicentric. Occasionally axial parenchyma aliform. Prismatic crystals in non- Rays more than 10 per mm (abundant). Prismatic crystals in the ray cells. Homogeneous rays and/or sub-homogeneous rays (all ray cells procumbent). Body ray cells procumbent with one row of upright and/or square marginal cells (Kribs-III). Fibers very thick walled. Fibers with distinctly bordered pits.

Sawing

It is easy to cut, but occasionally fibrous surfaces are reported after sawing.

Rotary Veneer Cutting

Lamination of this species is possible.

Sliced Veneer

Lamination of this species is possible.

Machining

It works fairly well but fibrous surfaces are reported when spiral grain is present.

Boring

Boring operations produce torn fibers.

Finishing

Finishing is even but fibrous.
