Pometia pinnata is typical in primary lowland evergreen and mixed dipterocarp forests, up to 300 m of altitude.

Wood Identification

Anatomic Description Of Wood

Wood diffuse porous. Occasionally tyloses common. Vessels per mm2 5 to 20. Occasionally vessels per mm2 less than 6. Vessel-ray pits reticulate and/or foraminate. Simple perforation plates. Intervessel pits large, 10 micras or more. Occasionally apotracheal axial parenchyma diffuse and/or diffuse in aggregates. Occasionally paratracheal axial parenchyma scanty and/or vasicentric. Axial parenchyma aliform. Axial parenchyma confluent. 5 to 8 cells per parenchyma strand. 4 to 10 rays per mm (medium). Occasionally larger rays more than 4 seriate. Oil and/or mucilage cells associated with the axial and/or ray parenchyma (idioblasts). Occasionally body ray cells procumbent with mostly 2 to 4 rows of upright and/or square margin Fibers with simple to minutely bordered pits.
