Wood Identification

Anatomic Description Of Wood

Wood diffuse porous. Vestured pits. Vessels per mm2 less than 6 (rare). Simple perforation plates. Vessel-ray pits similar to intervessel pits in size and shape. Intervessel pits small, 7 micras or less. Occasionally axial parenchyma in marginal or in seemingly marginal bands. Prismatic crystals in chambered axial parenchyma cells and/or in fibers. 3 to 4 cells per parenchyma strand. Occasionally 5 to 8 cells per parenchyma strand. Axial parenchyma bands more 4 to 10 rays per mm (medium). Prismatic crystals in radial alignment in procumbent ray cells (chambered cells). Prismatic crystals in the ray cells. Body ray cells procumbent with mostly 2 to 4 rows of upright and/or square marginal cells (Kribs-II). Body ray Fibers with simple to minutely bordered pits.

General Wood Description

Color

The heartwood is brown, dark brown or reddish-brown. The sapwood is lighter brown, and distinctly demarcated from the heartwood, especially in freshly in freshly cut trees.

Grain

The grain is usually straight or interlocked.

Texture

The texture is fine to very fine.

Luster

It is reported to be more or less lustrous.

Natural Durability

The timber is rated as durable in contact with the ground or weather.

Natural durability index (1= Very high durability, 7=Vey low durability)
