Description Of The Tree

Botanical Description

It is an evergreen, small to medium-sized trees up to 30 m tall. The bole is usually fairly straight, branchless for 20 m, up to 80 cm in diameter, sometimes with small buttresses.

Natural Habitat

Persea species occur in primary evergreen lowland to lower montane forests, up to 1,500 m of altitude.

Wood diffuse porous. Occasionally vessel clusters common. Tangential diameter of vessel lumina 100 micras or less (very small). Occasionally vessels with colored deposits. Tyloses common. Vessels per mm2 5 to 20. Vessels per mm2 more than 20 (very abundant). Ves Occasionally apotracheal axial parenchyma diffuse and/or diffuse in aggregates. Paratracheal axial parenchyma scanty and/or vasicentric. Occasionally two cells per parenchyma strand. 3 to 4 cells per parenchyma strand. 4 to 10 rays per mm (medium). Body ray cells procumbent with one row of upright and/or square marginal cells (Kribs-III). Septate fibers present. Fibers with simple to minutely bordered pits.
