Description Of The Tree

Botanical Description

It is reported to grow to heights of about 25 m, usually with trunk diameters from 50 to 60 cm. This species has straight, cylindrical boles, presenting small thick buttresses of about 50 cm high.

Natural Distribution

The geographical range for this species is the Peruvian Amazon forest. In Peru it grows in the departments of Loreto, Ucayali, Huanuco and Madre de Dios, in Loreto it is reported to be found in the margins of the Nanay river.

Tangential diameter of vessel lumina 100 micras or less (very small). Vessels per mm2 less than 6 (rare). Simple perforation p Axial parenchyma in continuous tangential lines (included in reticulate and scalariform). Prismatic crystals in non-chambered axial parenchyma cells. 3 to 4 cells per parenchyma strand. Axial parenchyma in narrow bands on lines up to 3 cells wide. Axial paren Occasionally rays more than 10 per mm (abundant). Rays 1 to 2 seriate. Heterogeneous rays and/or multiseriate heterogeneous rays. Body ray cells procumbent with over 4 rows of upright and/or square marginal cells (Kribs-I). Fibers with distinctly bordered pits. Occasionally fibers with distinctly bordered pits.
