Description Of The Tree

Botanical Description

The mature tree is reported to be medium size, attaining heights of up to 28 m, and trunk diameters of 50 cm in the average. The trees often develop straight cylindrical boles that are free of branches for about 13 m.

Natural Habitat

Campnosperma panamense is found in periodically inundable areas in the tropical rain forest. The trees are reported to be often found in marshy areas in almost pure stands called "sajales".

Natural Distribution

This species is reported from the Atlantic lowlands of Costa Rica, down to Colombia.
