Wood Identification

Anatomic Description Of Wood

Vessels exclusively solitary (over 90%). Occasionally vessels of two distinct diameter classes, wood not ring-porous. Tangential diameter of vessel lumina 200 micras or more (large). Tyloses common. Vessels per mm2 less than 6 (rare). Vascular/vasicentric trac Occasionally axial parenchyma in discontinuous tangential lines. Axial parenchyma oblique and/or sinuous. Axial parenchyma in continuous tangential lines (included in reticulate and scalariform). Over 9 cells per parenchyma strand. Axial parenchyma in narrow Rays more than 10 per mm (abundant). Rays exclusively uniseriate. Silica bodies in the ray cells. Heterogeneous rays and/or multiseriate heterogeneous rays. Fibers with distinctly bordered pits.
