It is a medium-sized to fairly large tree up to 36 m tall. The bole is branchless for up to 20 m, up to 100 cm in diameter, often with buttresses, occasionally stilt-rooted.
Lithocarpus sundaicus is common in primary lowland to montane forests of peninsular Malaysia and Java. It occurs up to 2,600 m of altitude.
Wood diffuse porous. Tyloses common. Vessels per mm2 5 to 20. Vessel-ray pits reticulate and/or foraminate. Simple perforation plates. Intervessel pits medium, 7 to 10 micras. Paratracheal axial parenchyma scanty and/or vasicentric. Axial parenchyma aliform. Axial parenchyma confluent. 5 to 8 cells per parenchyma strand. 4 to 10 rays per mm (medium). Body ray cells procumbent with mostly 2 to 4 rows of upright and/or square marginal cells (Kribs-II). Septate fibers present. Fibers with distinctly bordered pits. Fibers with simple to minutely bordered pits.

It usually has tannin odor.
The sapwood is fairly clearly differentiated, lighter pale brown in color. The heartwood varies from yellow-brown to brown., occasionally with darker colored stripes.
It is straight, rarely interlocked.
Texture is usually medium to coarse.
The wood surface is moderate in luster.
The natural durability is moderate, it is prone to blue stain.
