Description Of The Tree

Botanical Description

It is a medium-sized to sometimes large evergreen tree up to 30 m tall. The bole is straight or rather poorly shaped, branchless for up to 15 m, up to 60 cm in diameter, fluted and often with short buttresses at base.

Wood Identification

Anatomic Description Of Wood

Tangential diameter of vessel lumina 100 micras or less (very small). Occasionally tyloses common. Vessels per mm2 more than 20 (very abundant). Vessel-ray pits reticulate and/or foraminate. Intervessel pits large, 10 micras or more. Apotracheal axial parenchyma diffuse and/or diffuse in aggregates. Prismatic crystals in chambered axial parenchyma cells and/or in fibers. Over 9 cells per parenchyma strand. Axial parenchyma in narrow bands on lines up to 3 cells wide. Rays more than 10 per mm (abundant). Ray height more than 1 mm. Occasionally sheath cells. Body ray cells procumbent with one row of upright and/or square marginal cells (Kribs-III). Fibers very thick walled. Fibers with simple to minutely bordered pits.
