Wood Identification

Anatomic Description Of Wood

Tyloses common. Vessels per mm2 5 to 20. Vessel-ray pits reticulate and/or foraminate. Simple perforation plates. Intervessel pits large, 10 micras or more. Rays of two distinct sizes. Larger rays more than 4 seriate. Sheath cells. Body ray cells procumbent with mostly 2 to 4 rows of upright and/or square marginal cells (Kribs-II). Fibers with distinctly bordered pits.

General Wood Description

Color

The heartwood is cream to brown, sometimes with an olive tinge, not clearly differentiated from the pale brown sapwood.

Grain

The grain is mostly straight

Texture

The texture varies from moderately fine to moderately coarse.

Luster

The wood luster is reported to be rather moderate.

Natural Durability

It is perishable and rapidly attacked if it is unprotected.

Natural durability index (1= Very high durability, 7=Vey low durability)

5

Resistance To Impregnation

The heartwood is moderately easy to preserve, but the sapwood takes preservatives easily.
