General Wood Description

Color

Tivi is a pale brown to pinkish-brown, lustrous timber. Color is streaky. The sapwood, variable in width, is difficult to distinguish from the heartwood.

Texture

Texture is intermediate to coarse .

Natural Durability

Sapwood is susceptible to Lyctus attack. Prone to blue stain and termite. Heartwood is not durable and some form of preservative treatment is recommended for any permanent end uses. Sapwood and heartwood are highly resistant to pressure impregnation.

Workability

Sawing

Sawing of green material is normal ,although surfaces are often fibrous and stringy. Sawn surfaces of air dry material are reasonable or only slightly fibrous.

Rotary Veneer Cutting

Good peeling and drying properties, although staining may reduce yield of first grade veneer. Log supplies are restricted, but technically Tivi has good prospects for utility grade plywood.

Sliced Veneer

Good peeling and drying properties, although staining may reduce yield of first grade veneer. Log supplies are restricted, but technically Tivi has good prospects for utility grade plywood.

Machining

Tivi machines well, although slight chipping may occur around defects. Turning and boring operations are satisfactory.
