Description Of The Tree

Botanical Description

This tree is reported to be of small size, attaining heights of 20 m and a diameter of 35 cm. The boles are clear up to two thirds of the total height.

Natural Habitat

This species is reported to occur in the Amazon basin, in primary and secondary forests.

Natural Distribution

It is found in the north of Colombia, Brazil, Bolivia and Peru.

Vessels in diagonal and/or radial pattern. Occasionally vessels exclusively solitary (over 90%). Tangential diameter of vessel lumina 100 micras or less (very small). Vessels per mm2 6 to 10 (medium). Occasionally vascular/vasicentric tracheides present. Simpl Occasionally axial parenchyma in marginal or in seemingly marginal bands. Apotracheal axial parenchyma diffuse and/or diffuse in aggregates. Prismatic crystals in non-chambered axial parenchyma cells. Prismatic crystals in chambered axial parenchyma cells an 4 to 10 rays per mm (medium). Rays commonly 2 seriate. Heterogeneous rays and/or multiseriate heterogeneous rays. Body ray cells procumbent with one row of upright and/or square marginal cells (Kribs-III). Fibers with distinctly bordered pits.
