Buchanania montana Lauterb; Buchanania mollis Lauterb.
The bole is cylindrical, straight with buttresses rarely present.
This species grows in lowland forests up to 500 m of altitude by the river banks.
It is widespread throughout South-east Asia and New Guinea to Solomon Islands.
The sawdust of this species may cause dermatitis.
Wood diffuse porous. Occasionally tangential diameter of vessel lumina 200 micras or more. Occasionally tyloses common. Vessels per mm2 5 to 20. Vessels per mm2 less than 6 (rare). Simple perforation plates. Vessel-ray pits coarse in marginal rows. Intervessel p Paratracheal axial parenchyma scanty and/or vasicentric. Two cells per parenchyma strand. 3 to 4 cells per parenchyma strand. 5 to 8 cells per parenchyma strand. 4 to 10 rays per mm (medium). Occasionally larger rays more than 4 seriate. Occasionally silica bodies in the ray cells. Prismatic crystals in radial alignment in procumbent ray cells (chambered cells). Occasionally body ray cells procumbent with over 4 rows Septate fibers present. Fibers very thin walled. Fibers with simple to minutely bordered pits.

The sapwood is not clearly defined, white to pale pink. The heartwood ranges from pinkish-brown or gray-brown.

The grain is straight or slightly interlocked.
The texture is fine to moderately fine and even.
It is reported to be low in luster.
The wood is non-durable when exposed to weather or in contact with the ground. This timber is susceptible to termite and marine borer attack. No pinhole borer damage is likely to occur.
