Wood Identification

Anatomic Description Of Wood

Wood diffuse porous. Vessels exclusively solitary (over 90%). Tangential diameter of vessel lumina 100 micras or less (very small). Tyloses sclerotic. Tyloses common. Vessels per mm2 5 to 20. Vessels per mm2 less than 6 (rare). Intervessel pits scalariform. Simpl Apotracheal axial parenchyma diffuse and/or diffuse in aggregates. Occasionally paratracheal axial parenchyma scanty and/or vasicentric. 3 to 4 cells per parenchyma strand. 5 to 8 cells per parenchyma strand. 4 to 10 rays per mm (medium). Ray height more than 1 mm. Larger rays more than 4 seriate. Occasionally sheath cells. Occasionally body ray cells procumbent with over 4 rows of upright and/or square marginal cells (Kribs-I). Body ray cells procumbent with mostl Fibers very thick walled. Fibers with distinctly bordered pits.
